Some romance series become memorable because of one extraordinary couple.

Licking Thicket became memorable because I never wanted to leave the town.

Lucy Lennox and May Archer created a series that consistently made me laugh while quietly reminding me why I love small-town romance so much. Every book introduces a different couple with their own emotional journey, but together they build something even bigger: a community that feels alive, welcoming, and impossible not to become part of.

The humor is what first pulled me in. The residents of Licking Thicket seem incapable of minding their own business, and their outrageous gossip, constant meddling, and wonderfully ridiculous situations made every visit feel entertaining from the very first chapter. The comedy never felt forced because it grew naturally from the personalities that filled the town.

Brooks and Cash were the perfect introduction. As the first couple, they set the tone for everything that followed. Their fake relationship and easy chemistry immediately drew me into the series, but more importantly, they introduced me to a town I knew I wanted to revisit. Without realizing it, I had already become invested in far more than one romance.

As each new couple arrived, I appreciated that no two relationships felt identical. Diesel and Parrish brought warmth and unexpected family. Fools reminded me how vulnerable love can be. Turkeys explored happiness arriving in unexpected ways. Peacocks beautifully celebrated authenticity and accepting the person behind the carefully crafted image. Every romance had its own personality while still feeling unmistakably like Licking Thicket.

What stayed with me most, though, wasn’t a single romance.

It was the feeling of belonging.

The people in this town interfere constantly. They gossip, meddle, and somehow know everyone’s business before breakfast. Yet underneath all of that chaos is genuine affection. Their interference never comes from cruelty. It comes from caring. By the end of the series, I no longer felt like an outside observer reading about fictional characters. I felt like I had become part of the family alongside them.

That’s what makes Lucy Lennox’s writing so comforting for me. It isn’t simply that her books are funny. The humor creates space for connection. Every reunion, every recurring character, every inside joke makes returning to Licking Thicket feel like visiting people who are genuinely happy you’ve come back.

Licking Thicket became one of my comfort series not because it avoids emotional moments, but because no matter what challenges each couple faces, I know I’m returning to a community that celebrates love, embraces imperfections, and somehow makes every happily ever after feel like everyone’s victory.

It’s the kind of fictional place that makes closing the final book feel a little like saying goodbye to friends.
